D SAMSON & SONS (PVT) LTD - "AVI" Schools Badminton Championship 2009

Ananada, Museaeus emerge badminton Championship
This year the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association (SLSBA) conducted the schools tournament for 2009 in partnership with D. Samson & Sons (Pvt) Limited, the sole marketer and the distributor for the currently famous ‘AVI’ range of sportswear under the flagship of DSI Samson Group.
Ananda College was overall boys’ champions and Musaeus College won the girls’ title.The preliminary selection of events was conducted through district and provincial level within18 districts from June-July 2009. The opening ceremony was held on 26th August 2009 at 8 a.m. at St. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium, Mt. Lavinia. The national level competitions were held from 26-30 August 2009 at the indoor stadiums of Royal College, St. Thomas’ College, Nalanda College and Musaeus College. The Prize Giving and closing ceremony was held on August 30 at the Royal College Indoor Stadium.
DSI have continuously supported the Schools Badminton Association of Sri Lanka sponsoring this competition for the third time under the brand ‘AVI’. As a socially responsible Sri Lankan organization, DSI has been sponsoring many national sporting events to produce greater outstanding sportsmen and women for the future. At this point DSI provides an ideal opportunity to Sri Lankan school badminton Players Island wide to improve their skill levels.
Out of 163 schools in the 18 districts, a record 4006 players participated in this Schools Badminton Competition 2009 with 1012 players qualifying for the final competition.
When compared to previous years there is a marked increase in participation this year.
