In addition to our core business sectors, we have more projects planned to widen the diversification portfolio. These include projects planned for the future in the Agriculture Sector including the value addition of non-traditional local agricultural products, preserved locally grown seasonal agricultural products and production of virgin coconut oil etc.
At present, there is an acute shortage of natural rubber due to the low production of natural rubber as well as due to the increase in demand for these locally. In order to cater to this increase in demand, it was necessary to set long term targets to ensure the increase in the efficiencies in the production of natural rubber. Keeping in line with this national target, we have entered into a partnership with several large dry/wet rubber product manufacturing companies on a long term project in collaboration with the government and other international funding agencies. The idea is to plant rubber with a gestation period of 07 years, in the Monaragala District, which is considered an under-developed area.
The government has already released 33 hectares of land, and a model nursery has also been started there.
A partnership was established with Richard Pieris Exports Ltd., to ensure uninterrupted supply of quality raw material of fillers vital to the rubber industry.
